What to Do With the New: Tips for Planning for 2022

“Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.” – Seneca

The new year is finally here, which means a new beginning is in our lap. We’ve talked a lot about how to declutter your life and rid yourself of anything (or anyone) that is weighing you down – but once you’ve said bye to the clutter & chaos, what do you do? How does one properly begin to set goals and plan for the new year?

We have a few tips to help you get started with preparing to planning for 2022. Undertake the year and make it YOURS!

Having a Vision

First thing’s first, you have to have a vision for yourself. What do you want the year to look like? Do you want to have a change of scenery? Do you want to find more opportunities to learn & gain knowledge? Maybe you want to create a healthier lifestyle for yourself – but with that, you have to have a starting point. Your starting point is your overarching vision. Planning for 2022 and having a vision is critical to finishing your goal.

Next up to bat we have goal setting. You know what you want your year to look like, but how are you going to achieve it? If your vision is to create a healthier lifestyle for yourself, begin to make mini, realistic goals that are not in crazy reach like drinking at least 4 cups of water each day or going for a 10 minute walk after dinner. Once you feel confident in your smaller goals, you’ll be able to make your dreams & goals larger.

Putting Goals Into Action

After you’ve created your goals, you’re going to want to put them into action. You can tell yourself or write down that you want to achieve a certain thing, but how are you going to physically make those goals in your or on paper become a reality? One of the many keys to success in goal setting and planning is having some sort of medium to hold you accountable, which leads us into our final key piece to this planning puzzle…

Create it!

Seeing your goals and keeping track of the progression you make is going to be crucial in success and making sure those 2022 goals don’t get forgotten about. A great way to visually be reminded of your goals is to create a vision board. Gathering images that represent your vision, your goals & the actions you want to take will help hold you accountable each and every day. You know the vision you have, you have goals in place that you feel will allow you to make that vision a reality, and now it’s just a matter of being able to follow through.

If you are less of a visually motivated person, try putting your vision & goals in writing. This could be done several ways, but one of our favorite ways is to keep a running journal each month of our goals and crossing them off as they are achieved. Consistency is key, so having the constant reminder of “this is my big goal – but this month I’m going to accomplish x, y, and z to help get me there” is a great tool. Another effective way to visualize your goals is to write them on a post-it note in a hierarchy of difficulty. Accomplish the less daunting goals and then your “big” goal seems less intimidating.

The reality is, each year will have some sort of curveball that will seemingly “throw off” your vision. There will inevitably be setbacks, but with that comes the comeback. Get started on planning for 2022. Your vision can only work if YOU do!
